Client Work: Modern Fuel Side Click Pen

Modern Fuel, one of our clients at Propulsion, recently launched the Kickstarter campaign for their new all-metal machined side click pen. We worked hard on this project and I’m so excited to see it released into the wild.

Designing a completely new all-metal side click mechanism was very challenging, but a ton of fun. I worked with owner/machinist, Matt, from the beginning of product development. From studying as many pens as we could get our hands on, to developing and prototyping new mechanism ideas, to finely tuning production CAD/drawings down to the hundredth of a millimeter.

Prototypes shown here include an early large-scale 3D printed mechanism mockup, and the first 1:1 machined metal parts.

I love that these pens are designed to last a lifetime, and are another step away from disposable, consumable product mentality.

I'm extremely proud of the end result. Matt's incredible in-house production capabilities and attention to detail have really brought the product to life.
